There is nothing better than coming home to a freshly painted home.

Follow our top 5 tips for painting your home happy!

PREP THE AREA

One of the most common mistakes is beginning to paint before the area has been properly prepared. Ensure that all areas are brushed down and wiped down to ensure the best finish on your paintwork. This will minimise any dust getting trapped in the paint and leaving lumps and bumps all over your freshly painted walls.

Prime and smooth wall patches to ensure a perfect finish. This may involve filling and sanding any holes, dents or scrapes in the wall.

MASK OF SKIRTING AND GLASS

Before putting a brush to paint go around the room and mask off any woodwork or glass work in the room. This will not only prevent paint getting on areas that it shouldn’t but will also reduce time when cutting in.

SELECT THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT

Before starting, make sure you have everything you need to hand…paintbrushes of varied sizes, paint trays, rollers and extension poles. Ensure all equipment is clean and dry. Having everything to hand will help save time and prevent drying marks.

PAINT IN THE RIGHT ORDER

Paint any skirting, trims and ceilings before painting walls. This will minimise the risk of paint splashes from the ceiling hitting your freshly painted walls.

Always ensure you keep paint strokes in the one direction.

DRY AND VENTILATE

Ensure that any areas that have been taped, are allowed to dry before removing the tape.

Always ensure adequate ventilation when you are painting. It is important to allow fresh air into a room when painting.
