In April this year Finance Minister, Sammy Wilson unveiled and extra boost to the Loan Pensioner Allowance Scheme with additional funds of £17.5 million being added to the scheme.

Under the terms of this scheme people living alone and aged 70 and above will benefit from a 20% reduction on their rates bill.

Since the introduction of this scheme in 2008 over 27, 000 pensioners have been aided and the burden of rates has been significantly reduced.

There are also rate relief schemes in place for those from different backgrounds of the community to include, those aged 70 and above and not living alone, those on benefits and those with low incomes.
